Press Release

New York 22.11.2018

The Designers of the Year 2018 Gold Key award goes to the Russian Sundukovy Sisters studio.

Twins Irina and Olga Sundukovy and their Sundukovy Sisters design and architecture studio impressed the Gold Key awards judges with their audacious concepts and were recognized as The Designers of the Year 2018.

On November 12th  in New York, the USA, Hospitality Media Group’s 38th annual Gold Key Awards for Excellence in Hospitality Design sponsored by Boutique Design magazine announced the winners 2018 in 21 project categories, including the winner of the prestigious “The Designers of the Year” award.

The organizer commented: “This is the highest single honor we give out and it goes to the firm the judges feel had the most influence on the direction of hospitality design for the previous year.  I cannot think of a more deserving recipient.” – Mary Scoviak, Executive Editor, Boutique Design, Conference Director, HMG.

“This award is incredibly gratifying, not only to us, but for our incredible team of 50. With our boutique designs, we strive to exceed the expectations of our clients so that their customers enjoy truly unique and memorable experiences. We love our work, and suddenly, we find that we are not the only ones who appreciate the results!” – said twins Irina and Olga Sundukovy at the acceptance speech.

Sundukovy Sisters studio, or as they localize the name on international markets S+S, also won the Best Lobby Upscale prize for the Pullman Berlin Schweizerhof hotel where they renovated public spaces, including the restaurant and bar. Their smart rethinking of layout of the space and outstanding concept with aesthetic clues from Bauhaus and the Berlin’s zoo brought to the restaurant and the bar not only guests, but also passersby, what resulted in double increase of the restaurant and bar profits.

The Best Casual Dining winner is the studio´s Community Moscow, 681-square-meter space in the center of Moscow. “Sundukovy Sisters’ design for Community, a bar/restaurant/theater/lecture hall/private dining room/tea room in Moscow, is a poster child for new-school design fluidity.” (Boutique Design magazine). The designers made various zones work together by implementing elements of décor that differ in functionality and color, but are in tune with the main theme of the space – a library.
