An Italian restaurant shaped by the spirit of Andalusia.

Ca Marein is where the warmth of Italian hospitality meets the effortless rhythm of the Mediterranean coast. Set on Marbella’s first shoreline, the restaurant was conceived not as a destination apart from the beach, but as a natural continuation of it: a place where guests arrive from the promenade, linger over lunch, stay for sunset, and return for dinner without ever feeling the need to change pace.

Project Description

Designing Ca Marein meant finding the balance between three distinct identities.

The first was the unmistakable DNA our customer refined Italian dining, warm natural materials and a timeless sense of elegance.

The second came from the location itself. Positioned directly on the Mediterranean waterfront, the restaurant could never feel formal or ceremonial. It had to embrace the spontaneity of seaside life, welcoming guests directly from the beach while maintaining the atmosphere and refinement of a premium dining destination.

The third layer emerged during the design process. Rather than bringing Italy to Spain, we allowed Andalusia to reshape the project. Not through historical quotations or decorative nostalgia, but through atmosphere.

Graphic black detailing. Geometric mosaic patterns. Woven textures. Handcrafted elements. A restrained palette inspired by sun-bleached stone and Mediterranean light.

Each gesture is subtle on its own. Together, they create a place that could exist nowhere else but here.

Instead of competing with the sea, the interior extends it. Warm sand-coloured stone, natural timber, woven rattan and soft neutral fabrics create an atmosphere shaped by light, salt air and long summer days.

Spatial Experience

The restaurant unfolds as a sequence of spaces rather than a collection of rooms.

Two open terraces dissolve into the promenade, while a glazed terrace transforms with the weather, opening completely towards the sea or becoming an intimate indoor setting when needed. Multiple bars create different social rhythms throughout the restaurant instead of establishing a single focal point. An open kitchen, seafood display and wine room reinforce the idea that dining here is as much about experience as it is about cuisine. Hidden behind the wine library, a private dining room offers a quieter setting without disconnecting from the energy of the restaurant.

The architecture encourages guests to move naturally through the space, mirroring the relaxed rhythm of a day spent by the Mediterranean.

Design Language

Rather than relying on familiar Mediterranean clichés, the project builds its identity through restraint.

Black graphic lines frame soft neutral surfaces. Mosaic ornament introduces rhythm without becoming decorative excess. Metal furniture, woven details and textured fabrics add character while preserving the relaxed atmosphere expected from a beachfront restaurant.

The result is neither traditionally Italian nor overtly Andalusian. The result could only be Ca Marein.

Ca Marein was designed to dissolve boundaries: between indoors and outdoors, between lunch and sunset, between the beach and the table.

The architecture simply follows the rhythm that was already there.
